Here is a look at retailers that reported earnings: Sears (NASDAQ: SHLD ) reported its second quarter results. The company lost $5.39 per share, more than double the loss of $2.63 per share analysts were expecting. Revenue of $8.01 billion also fell short of expectations of $8.13 billion. The Children’s Place Retail Stores (NASDAQ: PLCE ) reported its second quarter results. The company lost $0.37 per share, less than the $0.44 loss per share analysts were expecting.

Australian companies paid $40.3 billion in dividends last year, nearly double the amount paid in 2012. ProShares Launches EAFE Dividend Growth ETF – Yahoo Finance

The in-licensing of promising mid-stage candidates by big pharma companies has gone up significantly this makes sense as it helps the companies cut down on the time and cost involved in developing a product from scratch. A major part of the in-licensing activity is focused on therapeutic areas like oncology, central nervous system disorders, diabetes and immunology/inflammation. The hepatitis C virus (:HCV) market is also attracting a lot of attention. (Read: Another recent trend is the divestment/monetization of non-core assets so that the companies may focus on their core areas of expertise. Biosimilars are (visit) also a focus area.

Thursday Sector Leaders: Financial, Technology & Communications – Forbes

Combined, BAC and STI make up approximately 6.7% of the underlying holdings of XLF. The next best performing sector is the Technology & Communications sector, up 0.4%. Among large Technology & Communications stocks, Hewlett-Packard Hewlett-Packard ( NYSE: HPQ ) and eBay eBay ( NASD: EBAY ) are the most notable, showing a gain of 5.7% and 4.4%, respectively. One ETF closely tracking Technology & Communications stocks is the Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLK), which is up 0.5% in midday trading, and up 13.16% on a year-to-date basis. Hewlett-Packard, meanwhile, is up 33.70% year-to-date, and eBay is up 1.59% year-to-date.
